SCIRENS SHOW Premiering April 7th

Scirens Show – Premiering April 7

Hello, world!

It’s been a minute since we’ve posted an update about our activities, and now that we’re all #SaferAtHome, we wanted to catch you up on what we’ve been doing.

First and foremost: we’re launching a show!

SCIRENS SHOW premieres on YouTube and IGTV on Tuesday, April 7th at 9am PDT.

As most of you know, the three of us – Gia Mora, Tamara Krinsky & Taryn O’Neill – originally coalesced through our mutual love of performing, storytelling and STEM (science, technology, engineering & math). A regular part of our work was getting together to chat about the STEM news that tickled our brains. We love geeking out together…plus, we all make good snacks!

In 2019, it became harder to see one another in real life because projects – both personal and professional – in our individual lives were getting busier (more on that below). But we didn’t want to give up our time together! So we decided to hop online every couple of weeks to share the STEM stories that had caught our attention. As we continued to do this, we had a feeling we weren’t the only ones who got excited about how science & tech affect us everyday, so we wanted to open the conversation up to all of you! Thus, the idea for SCIRENS SHOW was born.

It would be low tech, DIY, something we could record from wherever in the world we happened to be – a film or TV set, our homes, the editing room, backstage during a break from rehearsals.

And then, just as we were prepping to shoot our first few episodes, we entered the COVID-19 Era. Not only was getting together in person difficult – it was no longer safe. However, we realized that positive stories about science and technology are now more important than ever, as this pandemic has shown in full force how we are all connected. The incredible work being done by scientists, doctors, biologists, engineers and more needs to be recognized and appreciated. Now is a great time to be inspired by STEM stories (plus, we could all use a few ideas of what to talk about around the dinner table or over Zoom catch-ups, right???!).

Please join us on the Scirens YouTube channel or at @scirensofficial on IGTV! And if there’s an article you’ve found that you’d like us to share, please let us know. We can’t wait to be inspired by what YOU are thinking about.

Where have we been?

As for 2019…it was an exciting year for all of us…here’s what we were up to!

Tamara Krinsky

Tamara Krinsky spent much of 2019 traveling around the world hosting and writing Season Two of the Emmy-nominated series TOMORROW’S WORLD TODAY, which airs on Discovery Network’s Science Channel. The show explores how technology is improving sustainability in industries both old and new, from banana growing in Panama to compostable container-making in Indonesia to algae-based biofuels in California. Both seasons of the show are currently streaming on Amazon Prime

Back in LA, Tamara continued her work as a correspondent for Marvel, co-hosting the red carpet World Premieres for MARVEL STUDIOS’ CAPTAIN MARVEL and AVENGERS: ENDGAME, and SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME. She also appeared on the Marvel podcasts and digital series EARTH’S MIGHTIEST SHOW, THIS WEEK IN MARVEL and WOMEN OF MARVEL, interviewing Marvel filmmakers and fan favorites such as Paul Rudd, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Danai Gurira and more.

Additional performing adventures included hosting the red carpet for the Producers Guild of America Awards, playing multiple characters on the futurist podcast FLASH FORWARD and continued work with Antaeus Theatre Company, where she is an Ensemble Member.

Throughout 2019, Tamara focused her writing energies on scripting live events and award shows, including the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, Disney’s D23, GLSEN, The Trevor Project, Alzheimer’s Association  – California Southland, the Institute for Advanced Study’s Einstein Gala, Point Foundation, and Lambda Legal. Huge thanks to those who have placed their trust in her to help tell their stories!

Gia Mora

Gia Mora began 2019 by meeting the love of her life (at the opera!) and ended it by having her hip reconstructed, shooting the lead in a feature film directed by Cannes Best Actor winner Shahab Hosseini in between.

The comedy pilot she co-wrote, co-produced, and co-starred in, ANCHORS AWAY , screened at the Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival and the Lift-Off Film Festival. She also became a series regular on the history podcast PESSIMISTS ARCHIVE, occasionally lending her music composition skills as well.

She’s using the quarantine to return to her beloved yoga practice post-new hip and to write a new show about high school robotics. If she’s really ambitious, she’ll also continue her PANDEMIC PIANO TIME series on IGTV.

Taryn O’Neill

Taryn O’Neill spent 2019 immersed in the new world (for her) of filmmaking and film festivals. Her directorial debut short film LIVE (which she also wrote and starred in) premiered at the Boston Sci-Fi Film Festival in February (where she won the Best Actor award) and screened at Sun Valley Film Fest, the SAG AFTRA Foundation Showcase, Austin Outer Limits Film Festival and at the touring GeekFest Film Festival. It premiered on Gunpowder and Sky’s DUST channel, a dedicated Sci-Fi portal and has 450K views thus far. She has a feature film version of the project in development.

Taryn also spent the year hunkered down in her office developing and writing two additional Sci-Fi projects and is now in pre-production on the feature film adaptation of the supernatural romance book WICKED for Passionflix. She is beyond excited to direct this movie and to infuse all her projects with her passion for science and tech!

Thank you, as always, for your continued support of the Scirens’ mission. We’re in this together, and together we’ll find our way through.

Xo,

Tamara, Gia & Taryn
