Gia Mora, Tamara Krinsky & Taryn O’Neill, aka the Scirens, came together over our mutual love of performing, storytelling and STEM (science, technology, engineering & math). We believe in encouraging science literacy through entertainment. When we first came up with the idea for this show, it was because our lives had gotten so busy that the only way we could catch up was over Google hangouts. As we found ourselves geeking out over STEM stories via videochat, we had a gut feeling that we weren’t the only ones who got excited about how science & tech affect our everyday lives, so we wanted to share the conversation with all of you. And Scirens Show was born!
And then, just as we were prepping to shoot our first few episodes, we entered the COVID19 Era. Not only was getting together in person difficult – it wasn’t safe. However, we realized that positive stories about science and technology are more important than ever. This pandemic has shown, in full force, how we are all connected and that the incredible work being done by scientists, doctors, biologists, engineers and more needs to be recognized and appreciated. So every episode, each Sciren will share a STEM article that has captured their attention and (hopefully!) a lively conversation ensues. We believe this is a great time to be inspired by STEM stories together (plus, we could all use a few new ideas to talk about on all the Zoom hangouts, right???).
Most importantly, we want to hear what STEM articles have been piquing YOUR interest! Leave your favorites in the comments and we’ll make sure to check them out. Stay curious and stay healthy.
